HG Hyaku Shiki Revive #4

Applied some decals on the upper body parts followed by flat clear (GX113).

Skyfly NB Pro power on

Charging up, there are two batteries inside. One is the base, one whole piece, the other one is a small one hidden inside the handle bar. That said, the radio can operate without the base and make it lighter - might be a bit imbalance.

HG Hyaku Shiki Revive #3

Testing on gold color.

Base on same airbrush (HP-CR 0.5mm), and at constant pressure (28 psi), same primer (GSI 1200 grey) and same base coat (Gaia gloss black + Gaia EX03). Testing with Gaia 122 star bright and Mr Color SM 207.

According to GSI web site, SM 207 require a coat, hence I use EX03.

For comparison purpose, I also applied mr color acrylic H30 as coating on Gaia 122. (PS : was using EX03 first, but end up it melt the gold paint hence have to redo and use acrylic base clear gloss). In addition, it might not be necessary to do a clear coat on star bright. The clear coating does impact the reflection of the surface, while it is still shinny, it gives a different effect.

Compared to Spray can, the outcome is a lot better but is it the best the paint can do, certainly not.

Will have to test again with different air pressure and try again.

Are you hot ?

Nice sticker !

Hotshot body shell is done and waiting for next outing !

Change ESC and motor on Optima

The Team Power Radon Pro ESC was damaged and malfunction.

Was thinking to use brush motor this time :

It is a 30T brushed motor.

End up decided to give brushless system another trial.

Changed to SpeedPassion 2.0 ESC and HobbyWing G2.1 21.5T motor, also change to the small spur (blue) which is 51T instead of the original 61T spur. Should be more suitable for 21.5T motor.

Goodbye iPod, my running mate

Using it for 10+ years, always with me when I am jogging.

in 2022, it decided to say goodbye and retire for good. It just stopped being able to charged, no more music out of it.

I will miss it.

Hotshot run again, after 37 years

This is not the original 1985 production, which I had one in the past, it was yellow in color, AM radio ... it ended up in the sea of HK. My bad.

After all these years, I wanted one back. It was a re release production like 10 years ago, I built it slowly, very slowly. During the build, I "found" it has a lot of flaws, bad steering system design, bad servo horn, very sort front suspension and much harder (and cannot go to the bottom) suspension in the rear, electronics compartment is way to small for brushless system .... etc. I thought i would not have it on the ground again.

But then, I was wrong.

I equipped it with a Novak GTX ESC, use the original stock RS540SH silver can, forget which gear ratio I used, a low end servo (like 10kg 0.3sec type) and a Spektrum radio .... body shell not even painted. The moment I put it on the ground, I know, I was wrong about it.

I brought an Optima as a backup car for the test run.

End up, I use all the batt I brought on the Hotshot and let the Optima rest.

It is raw, it is unlike today buggy, but you don't and won't have problem with it when you run it. It is how a 80's Tamiya design should be.

Glad to have it, built it and will continue to run it.

HG Hyaku Shiki Revive #2

While sanding is towards the end, started painting the head, upper body and both hands.

The antenna looks pretty bulky, cut away the upper part, drilled a 0.3mm hole on the bottom of original part for a thinner antenna.

Using GSI 1200 grey primer on all the parts except for the red part which I used GSI pink primer instead.

Red is GSI UG12, blue is Gaia 004, grey is Gaia Nazca NC-007, and all the gold area has been applied a thin and shinny layer of Gaia gloss back (3:1 Gaia gloss clear) to prepare for the golden layer. Sprayed with Iwata HP-CR 0.5mm, at 28 PSI.

Modo R3 0.3mm airbrush

Haven't got a chance to try it yet, the polishing of the paint cup is very nice and smooth, it also comes with two cap, one additional trigger and an air hose with quick release.
