RG Evangelion Unit-03

My first Eva !

Entry Grade Strike #2

Only really started to build the kit about a week ago, and here is the progress so far.

Decided to use Rouge color scheme instead of the usual Strike Gundam, and wanted to give it a "metal" feel. Eye has been painted by GSI water base color n-100 Fluorescent Green, mixed two pink colors by Modo pearl white (ProMix 1) and E7 primary red. Gaia Star Bright Gold on one of the antenna.

The other metal color used are Modo MX-02 (gun metal) and Gaia 1001 (silver)
The main body was painted with GSI GX-202 metallic red first :
Then found it is a bit too pinkish, so added another layer of GSI clear orange (GX-106)

Fitting is nice as usual, no major modification except adding a few panel lines.

Five Star Stories by Wave

Volks is definitely one of the major players in producing quality FSS model kits, Wave also some kits which is even harder to find.

30mm Alto Grey #2

Instead of 30mm, I actually make it 3hm - 3 hours mission.

The plastic is a bit soft, I guess Bandai do so to eliminate the needs of ABS plastic.

Parts are accurate and build process is smooth.

30mm Alto Grey #1

My first 30mm kit, look simple, just 1 full size and one half size runners for the main body, with another half runner for backpack and weapon, and yeah, a few pieces of PC for joints.

While it could possibly be done in 30mm, it still took me 90 mins to reach this including some sanding work.

Volks Resin kits - Five Star Stories

One of them are the latest HSGK kit, rest are slightly older SAV (solid art version) and SSS (super spirit series).

Open box to examine the Bang Doll and V Siren Prominence, parts are nicely casted in light white-yellow resin.

The rest are in original sealed bag, so keep them untouched for now.

Kaiyodo 1/35 fireball SG #8 (completed)

Added the power lines on both feet and left arm.
Completed the build.

1/35 Knight #1

I am 6 years late to find out what is Industria Mechanika and its resin product. When I tried to look around and search for 1/35 Michael Herm's Knight, the original cast are sold out and the production has stopped and IM change to sell 3D print models instead.

Well, there is no other choice left and I went to the "place" to find a re-cast product.

Even re-cast, there are limited choice too. I would go for the original product if I can.

This blog is NOT about comparing the cast vs re-cast, or complaining how bad the re-cast are.

First trial build the cockpit :

Fitting seems ok by itself, however, I have problem fitting it into the upper main body, partially due to the main body left and right side are a bit bend, and partially due to the fact that I just want to get this done instead of get it super details :)

I washed the left and right part and took them for a hot bath to slowly adjust their form.

Before :

Yes, there is a damage in the kit - should be an easy fix, but leave it to later part.

After hot bath and use of eProxy glue and instance glue :

Also removed some material from the cockpit cover and reduced the gap between the cover and the main body.

Kaiyodo 1/35 fireball SG #7

Before the smoke effect :

After applied Modo T041 smoke :

I think my next Ma.K. project will be a CLEAN and SHINNY build instead :)

Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 355 #5

The project has stopped for over a year, actually more than a year, to give way to all other static models and RC projects.
Started to prepare the wheels today, and back in action.
The chrome paint is originally from Fujimi, leave them untouched. Applied panel lines, wash a bit, a layer of Gaia 030 semi gloss clear with a few drops of transparent purple. Last position MFH sticker (sticker, not decals) on the centre of the rims.

Hexa Gear 1/24 Governor Warmage Hetzer #4 (completed)

Fixed all broken parts together again by instance glue, applied decals, some weathering, a layer of Gaia 030 semi gloss clear and some smoke effect by Modo T041. Completed my first Hexa Gear model kit.

HG Hyaku Shiki Revive #10

Stop this project for almost 2 months to give way to the new models, Ma.k & Hexa Gear, and some RC cars too.

Back in action and finished the first gold (Mr Color SM 207) for the legs and wings.

I have left the painted parts untouched for 2 weeks, end up found that there is some black dots developed on the surface. Quickly applied the decals and applied water base clear coating (Mr Color H30) to avoid any further impact.

Xray XB4 original #4 (completed)

After test run, minor adjust some of the usual setting - ride height, front toe out, camber ... etc
Completed the body shell paint work and call it an end.

Xray XB4 original #3

Given it is a car released in 2012, it has to match with older electronics (and real reason is I have spare) - a Tekin 10.5 brushless motor and a LRP Sphere TC Spec ESC, some old saddle packs too - hey, the saddle packs are old, possible 10 years or more but they are not having any problem or sign of blow up, amazing !

Fit on the body and wing without painting first and test two packs today.

Test run was done on an open carpark, ESC does not support turbo / boost and the 10.5T works not bad at 1:8.1 final gear ratio. The Proline bald tires works well too.
One thing I am glad about Xray is that when they design the chassis and body shell, they have given a thought on how the ESC / motor and batteries wires are going, there is so much clearance within the chassis and between the chassis and body shell to allow the thick wires to go through without touching and being a barrier. A number of other on-road / off-road kits I built did require a better solution for wiring especially for brushless system.

Xray XB4 original #2

Continue the build and found more screw problem - one of the wheel hex lock screw has no thread.

Again, minor problem but very unusual in my experience when building RC kits from Xray.

All provided ball bearings are smooth as usual, require a bit of thin bearings oil, and drive train is very smooth too.

Follow the instruction to use 10k oil in from gear diff and 5k in the rear, slippery clutch set to a point where hand can move the spur slowly while both side of the output cups are locked.

The steering posts are well designed and engineered, not much play after build consider it is just plastic.

Old TC style anti roll bars, not as smooth as today design. Remember to setup its left and right balance during the low arm build steps.

Shocks are well designed and user-friendly to build left and right balance shocks.

Next Project - Xray XB4 original #1

Slowly started this original XB4 bought many years ago. One thing I found - some of the hex screws are NOT well made and I damaged a few of them already in front and rear gear boxes.

Unusual for Xray.

Egress Vintage Restoration #4 (completed)

Last task - body shell painted !
Ready to go !
