Weathering pass #1.

Tried to make the missing wheel cap by a metal shim and a circle cut from plastic card.

Prime it with metal primer, followed by Mr Color c308

Installed

However, I did a bit over push when installing, so it is not very even. But will have to leave it that way. 

Now all parts are built except the clear pieces, pending wash and weathering, and the final matte coat.

Completed decals, installed small part on wing and one of the main landing gear as well as all the doors on the fuselage.

The other side of the main landing gear still need some work as I misplace the wheel cap and still cannot find it.

Then a bit of sanding and drilling with 0.5mm bit on the exhausts.

Finally, cut the canopy for open pose !!! I started with a 0.075mm chisel, just like deepening the panel line, afterwards, changed to a micro saw and cut it off. It will require some sanding and cleaning, repaint for sure.

Cut off the internal connecting slot for the two exhausts so I can paint them separately from the two "legs"

Plastic is a bit brittle, have to handle carefully (which I did crack one side already).

Let the paints dry for 48 hours and it's decals time.

Touch up and final coating done. 

Completed !!

Made lots of mistake while building it, learnt a lot too. 

I did not manage to paint any metallic sheen this time, but there is always a next try.

While clear sky and windy, applied main fuselage color with masking of the walk way and bottom grey color. 3 thin coating.

I have adjusted the light of the photo and now I can see a bit of the cockpit detail, thinking should I close the canopy and hide all these or cut the 1-piece canopy and pose it as open.

 Continue the mottling process, this time a bit of yellow on the downward surface of fuselage.

Afterwards, applied a few thin layers of GSI 308 on the bottom surface, and Gaia German grey on the walking path of the wings.

Finally, installed all doors. Care must be taken especially during installation of the two-fold weapon compartment door under fuselage. The connection of the two tiny pieces which should form an angle in a way that it won't sit lower than the main gears. I did that first without noticing the point above, end up it was the doors touch the ground instead of the landing gears.

Next and final steps are weathering of the newly installed components and a final coating of clear. Hope to complete before year end.

 Masked cockpit and gear wells, applied #1500 black primer, followed by GSI 156 mottling.

Build started. Glued the parts together, managed to sand the steps between them and filled the seams. 

Frankly, I am satisfied with the build as this kit was produced almost 40 years ago.

Sprayed some of the parts too, think Gaia 063 is pretty close to the original space armour from the boxart. The cockpit has some raised panels, which is nice, but the kit decals does not provide any instrument panel decal, I am thinking to "steal" some from other's jet fighter PE and also the seat belt is missing too.

Painted yellow on propeller tips and main airframe color on the masked canopy

Dry fit canopy and landing gear - the fit is just nice. 

Masking canopy to prepare for paint job. This time I will paint the canopy separately without connecting it to the airframe. It is a one-piece canopy, but it is still too small for my eyes. 

Also cover the inner surface of canopy with masking tape.

Completed 2nd round of masking and this time a brown ring on the missiles.

Installed the missiles and the gear doors / weapon bay doors - which is a challenging job - parts are small and connecting area are tiny.

Few more doors to go.

Airfix 1/72 P-40B #5

Mixed a bottle of color for P-40B with 50-50 of Tamiya LP-64 and GSI UG-07, with a few drops of Gaia 071. Applied it on the propeller cover, and Gaia 072 on the inside rims of the main landing gear wheels.  

Installed head rest in the cockpit, weathering and sealed it with GX114.

Applied black primer and a couple of thin layers of GSI #156 white on 2x AIM-9 and 6x AIM-120.

Masked the missiles for next layer of spraying.

 Applied a yellow line (GSI UG-21) and grey (Gaia 072) on the tips. 

Preparing the gear well doors and 1/2 of the weapon bay doors - with grey primer and GSI #156 white.
