Another set of tyres for this weekend

FW05RR has been back to action for 3 weekends ! but tyres diameter has a lot of impact to its speed. First round was satisfied but since there was a malfunction bearing on one of rear hub which caused the tyre to become cone shape, truing down the tyre diameter (down to 60.5mm) has a direct impact to the car mid and top speed performance on 2nd and 3rd weekend.

I was running 35/37 but it is out of stock now, so try 32-40/40 in next meeting.

Awesomatix A800 -> MMC conversion kit

Something hard to find now.

It can translate my oldest original A800 to midship layout.

More Xray T4

This time it is a T4 20' and 21'

Both flex alloy chassis version.

ARC A10 23' #1

Another brand, similar design ...

But, its build quality surprise me - it is the very first time I built ARC kit altho I have bought a few over the years.

Ball bearings are high quality, moving parts are smooth, anti-roll bars adjustment is easy, front and rear drive shafts are all pre built ...

Spent few hours each day over 3 days - it is almost done - only pending ESC installation, basic setup and body shell.
I have been enjoying the build.

Another set of 1/10 TC setup tool

Used the ArrowMax 4D for over a years with my new and old TC, it is working well but just one issue - some of the modern TC has adjustable caster - and some brand of kit - the pointer for caster is long and cannot fit well on the 4D.
Hudy setup tool is much higher - and possibly can fit in well.

A pair of F-86A from Clear Prop

Clear Prop 1/48 and 1/72 on the same subject

Funbox 1/12 C44

Funbox is a new name to me - not sure if it exists for long time or it is really new to the market.

Its first release of F1 kit - a 1/12 and a 1/20 version of C44

I have first received the 1/12 version, the box is BIG !

Axon TC10/3 build #2

Chassis build is WIP, front solid axle and rear gear diff is done.
Back to the first step of the manual, built all the tie-rods
This time, I started building it with grease, to make setup and adjustment in future more smooth !

Iris One.2

The third (or the forth counting the One.05) from the brand.

BMT 701

It is an old model, but might have a new life with 235mm conversion
Also prepared an Ilasi tuned engine for it !!

Serpent 990R

It is here !

Iris One

Consider to start the build soon, while local track is scheduled to renovate.

Chassis is a bit long - has glued the edge already. It also comes with a box with screws, pretty nice.

While its name is One, it actually comes with 3 belts. Unique design in current TC market.

Secret new toy - Tamiya ??

Until open box ....

Kyosho FW05RR - fixes

After last Sat run, it is maintenance time on Sunday !
Hands were dirty, hence only picture to show the work table but not details fix / parts.

First, one of the rear side wheel lock nut kept coming out after run, and I noticed it is a bit of heat on it.
Suspect the bearings issue inside the bearing hub. Open it up and found that both bearings died. Replaced.

Second, I think the clutch engagement is a bit tight - so need to remove the engine and adjust it. Shaft drive car is a bit more troublesome compared to belt drive car on adjustment of clutch. While remove the engine I noticed the 3rd problem.

Third, there is one deformed bearing which supposed to hold the backside of the two-speed layshaft. As a result, the layshaft is hanging and only connect to the bearing hub in the front. Remove the two-speed layshaft from the chassis is a bit of work, and once I can see the shaft - unfortunately, the little screw which hold the plastic cup for center rear shaft is damaged and I cannot unscrew it. Tried remove all the parts from the other end of the layshaft, but end up the damaged bearing - its residual ring stuck on the layshaft. After spending sometime try to resolve it - I was thinking - change to new parts, why bother to fix. Hence I found a new layshaft and plastic shaft cups, rebuild the 2-speed and put them back.

Last but not least, all 4 tyres were trued to 60.40mm diameter.

Before the next game, I think it is better to check all other 3 bearing hubs, and back to setup station.
Potentially it would be the last weekend of run before the local onroad track to be close for renovation.

FT9 run on track

So far 10 packs of testing - mostly run 8 mins blinky 17.5 setup.

Tyre additive only applied to the rear side and on warmer (8-10 mins) before hitting the track.

Modern FWD is really fun to drive and it is a good (and fun) platform to use up all old tyres !

Kyosho FW05RR - recent runs

This is one of the oldest nitro kit I have with me, and still working.

I have built couple of 1/10 nitro on-road kits in past few years, IF15 and MTX7, however, I did not run much and have been years since I ran any nitro car.

The original plan - later 2024 / early 2025 and I prepared new bodyshell, replaced new tubes, new pipe, clean engine, new rx batt, new set of foam tyres .... but, it was still in the box unmoved for another year.

My excuse was that I need to catch up my driving skill and understand what is the modern TC (EP) build and setup. Finally I did that - not that I am fast now, but indeed I have improved my laptimes over the last 12 months with various EP - old one (Xray T4 original I think release in 2012) to newer one - BD11/12, IF-14-2 Mid, X4 2022, A800MMX, FT9 .... etc. Now I understand more on the TC setting and its effect.

Another pusher - the local track is going to close for renovation for 2 months - so I have to run my FW05RR before it is too late.

Here we go.

Installed new pipe and manifold, and make sure it won't touch the rear arm and anti-roll bar, some clearance altho not a lot.

I am still running the old S12 NSR5 engine. I think better to start slow - rather than latest engine from the market. I think it has gone thru 30+ tanks runtime in my record, but not sure what I have used before the record. And last time I started was 2014. After 12 years, it runs again.

Open a small exhaust hole on side of the bodyshell :

New tube, new rx batt :

With the new set of tyres, starter box, grow plug and heat gun, it is going back to alive.

First nitro run on track - 6 tanks done and I am happy. Chassis require some fix and adjustment after that. Will get it ready for another weekend test.

Storm Trooper from Blokees (Completed)

It is a well design kit - with very little gate to clear and no seam to fill. The gate is small too - Bandai RG standard - no undergate tho.

Started the build from the head and body. Color parts are pre-painted. Fit is 100%.

And some other moment later ...

MAG modified motor - OS 2106

Outing with RC10 4WD

A quick run for 15 mins in a hot afternoon. Original tyres are mostly worn out.

I had a small accident on it - the rear alloy motor guard was hit and deformed a bit, but seems not affecting the drive train.

Also reduced the steering exp from 0 to -25.

First gen Xray T4

It is my only chassis which ran over 100 packs of batt and still in service.
Still can do some decent run at local track. Laptime is good from my own record but is far off from racers. The bottom plate shows serious wear and tear. I still have spare parts to fix it - a chassis I ran since 2013.
